Name of Organization: The Met
Address: 362 Dexter Street, Providence, Rhode Island
Description of the overall mission of this organization: A public school in providence that empowers students to take charge of their own learning and become great citizens in society.
Ages of youth served: High School aged students 14-18.
Name of Mentor: Lena Correa
Hours worked: 13 hours a week. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday. Great with scheduling!
Description of your role and duties: Focused on talking with youth about various topics. Personal life, online videos, etc. Worked with kids on their worktrackers.
Description of the culture of the place: Great culture, everyone treats each other like family. I would usually wear a polo and jeans. School appropriate clothing. Very laid back with what you can wear.
Additional Requirements: If you're a mentor for a student, you might have to meet them at their internship a few times a week. Having transportation could be important if you have to do this.
Special notes on process of getting this internship: I had a great experience, the kids in this space have so many interesting stories and come from many different backgrounds. My mentor was great, she was incredibly accommodating to my needs and what I wanted to accomplish in my time at The Met. It can get a little boring from time to time but, I would highly suggest an internship here.
Other internship opportunities with this organization: Job opportunities are always an option here. Advisor positions aren't limited to people with teaching degrees. You can be an advisor/educator with a youth development degree.
