Description of your role and duties: I am a behavior specialist. I work in the schools and in the resident homes. In both locations I am working hands-on with the students with disabilities. Students I work with can have autism, physical disabilities, severe developmental disabilities, or sever behaviors. I help them with day to day living task at the resident homes. Some of the tasks can be cleaning their rooms, eating, and showering etc. At the schools, we help them with educational task like math and speech. In both locations there is paper work to fill out like their data book that records their behaviors and their task book which is what they are working on to improve in.
Description of the culture of the place (how many people in the office, dress code, communication style): Dress code is pretty relaxed but they do not want anybody wearing jeans or sweat pants. At all times you have to be wearing closed toe shoes. Before you start working with the students you go through an orientation and it teaches and help you with how to communicate with the children in this population.
Additional Requirements: The school building is about 45 minutes from Providence. The resident homes are in different cities in Massachusetts. It would be convenient if you have a car because you would have to travel to the residents' homes too.
Special notes on process of getting this internship: I worked here before I asked to do my internship here. They are always looking for new staff to work here but I am not quite sure about the internship opportunities

Description of the culture of the place (how many people in the office, dress code, communication style): nine people in the office. The dress code is dressy casual. Jeans and sweater/ proper shirt allowed when not on site visits. In the field it is business attire. The environment is very relaxed and easy going.
Additional Requirements: (travel, etc): travel if you don't live in Warwick.
Special notes on process of getting this internship: Just be friendly speak about what you are truly passionate about  don't just do it because it's an internship. I fell for what they believe in. I also picked this internship because I never imagined myself in administrative role and thought I would have hated it but I took a risk and did it because in life there will always be some type of administrative side, so why not get more experience.

Description of the culture of the place (how many people in the office, dress code, communication style): The school environment consisted of teachers and teacher aides that varied from preschool to eighth grade.  The dress code consisted of being professional yet comfortable. With working with children you need to be as comfortable as possible while still remaining professional.  Principal and teachers communicate effectively through face to face along with email as well.
Additional Requirements: Also worked in the after school program twice times a week with a focus on preschool.

Description of the culture of the place: YBP is an alternative high school program. It is a comfortable environment. However, the setting is different from other schools. There are two classrooms where students do there work online through a program called Penn Foster. The other side of the program is that they have a construction site where they go and build and learn construction and leadership skills to help their community and neighborhood. The dress code is c casual but professional.  Students have a uniform which includes khaki pants and a black shirt with the YBP logo. The majority of the students here are minorities and are underrepresented.

I am an assistant preschool teacher, I help the Lead teacher with anything she needs. I help with circle time, snack, lunch, phonics papers, morning work, letter tracing book, anything and everything the teacher needs help with. There is one receptionist in the office who is also a teacher part time, she take the phones calls, goes to each classroom and makes copies of lesson plans or pictures for the teachers. The dress code suggested to be comfortable shoes, pants but not jeans, it is  more dressed down but comfortable because you are on your feet working with kids.
I found this internship by calling preschools, and daycares in Middletown and  in Portsmouth close to where I live. I asked if they accept interns Silveira kindergarten and preschool just so happens to be accepting interns.  Eventually when it came close me to being done with my internship my mentor wanted to keep me there so she hired me on the spot. It was a great experience.  I got to learn a lot about the preparation and time that it take to prepare activities for the students each day.

This was an awesome internship site! This site offered a variety of different components that build a strong youth leader. My duties were to assume the role of the full service community school director. This internship site included both administrative and hands on duties. An average day may include school team meetings, data input, event planning, meetings at Providence Youth Services, supplying resources to families within the school and overviewing all YMCA run after school programs. The Full Service Community School Director partners with Family Service and Dorcas International to build school success.This position is very fast paced. There is always a lot to do within the school and providing students with the resources they need to learn and grow.
Description of the culture of the place (how many people in the office, dress code, communication style)
The Full Service Community School Director shares an office with the school social worker. The office environment is very relaxed but this position is very fast paced. Dress code is business casual and is followed by the expectations of the teachers within the school. A bubbly personality is a must for this position. Interns need to be comfortable speaking with teachers, administration, students, and students parents.

Daboll Street is located off of a major bus line if transportation is an issue. The YMCA requires staff to obtain their CPR and first aid. Other trainings are offered through the YMCA.

I  sat in on Afterschool Leadership Circle executive and membership meetings where I connected with area nonprofit and education leaders and staff from PASA, Rhode Island Dept of Education, and Connecting Children and Families to name a few. I reviewed and collected data on past mini conferences and sent out DCYF certificates for training hours. I connected with community partners and surveyed youth development professionals working in the Cranston libraries or the Center for Dynamic Learning to mention a couple to shape a framework for what became an evening STEM mini conference on Sustainable Partnerships and Inquiry Based Programming.
Description of the culture of the place: There are about 25-40 people in the office on a given day. The dress code can be business casual for interns (button down/khaki pants, polo/jeans) were my combinations of choice. The office environment is very friendly, accommodating, and you can expect to enjoy delicious lunch leftovers by the coffee station from various meetings or gatherings.

Description of your role and duties: I was the assistant to the creative director of The Carolyn Dutra Dance Studio and to the co-director of Dance for Art.
Description of the culture of the place Whenever I worked in the office, there was no more than 3 or 4 people in the office at the same time. When working on rehearsals, there would be many of us facilitating. We are very TEAM oriented at the dance studio. I would normally be wearing dance clothes (tights/leggings, a leotard, my staff shirt, and my hair pulled into a ponytail.) I can definitely go to anyone in the office if I need help and can reach them in anyway and know that they will get back to me.
Additional Requirements:  I would have to get coffee (they paid for mine as well!), sometimes stay late when shows come around, and coming in early on weekends when we had rehearsals.
Special notes on process of getting this internship: I decided to do my internship at the dance studio I have worked at for the past 4 years. My mentor was very open to having me come on staff in a new and exciting way.
Other internship opportunities with this organization: I am not sure about people getting internships here because I have already been working there and that is how I was able to do the internship, but definitely we are always looking for help if you are interested in the arts and nonprofit work.
