Description of the overall mission of this organization: Learning for Life, a collaboration of the College Crusade, Goodwill Industries of Rhode Island, College Visions, and Rhode Island College, is a multi-faceted community and college partnership. Learning for Life (L4L) will link students to a wide range of services, supports, and opportunities that will fortify them for college success and remove any challenges and obstacles that may prevent education from remaining a priority in their lives.
Ages of youth served: Any college student (ranging from 17 into adulthood)
Name of Mentor: Kelly McNulty
Hours worked: You have 2 office hours per week and 1 supervisor meeting hour per week. These times can be any time Monday-Friday between 8:30am-4:30pm. All other hours are based on appointments scheduled with the students you are mentoring. This can be a difficult way to accumulate the required number of hours, as it can be hard to get students to contact you back or come to their meetings.
Description of your role and duties: Meet with students one-on-one to provide support and advice in areas including academics, resource-referral, financial hardships, and anything else that the student may be struggling with. There is quite a bit of paperwork involved because each meeting or form of contact with each student is recorded into their file.
Description of the culture of the place: There is usually anywhere from 4-8 people in the office at most times. Everyone is super friendly and nice! The dress code is every-day-wear, nothing special.
