Description of your role and duties: The intern's role at MCS RI is to serve as a classroom support person. I was able to float between the two classrooms and had a rotating schedule. Mondays and Thursdays I served as a support person in the Primary classrooms and Tuesdays in the Toddler classroom. Some days, my schedule did sometimes change depending on which classroom needed the most support those days. I would assist with snack time, work one on one with the students, helped set up the classroom before the children arrived, and helped during lunch and rest time.
Description of the culture of the place: Montessori Community School has a total of 12 staff. The environment of the school is cozy, friendly and extremely family oriented. The main lobby of the school is open and breathable with a lot of sunlight coming into the school. The classrooms are designed where everything is at the child's reach (only materials that are for the child to use are at reach). The classrooms are sunny, warm and centered around the child's needs. In the classrooms, you will find many pictures of the children and pictures of their families. The staff is respectful and have great communication. We often communicate via email or in person. Everyone is always looking out for each other and are always working as one to ensure the children, families, and staff have a great experience at MCS RI.
