Description of the overall mission of this organization:The mission of Brown University is to serve the community, the nation, and the world by discovering, communicating, and preserving knowledge and understanding in a spirit of free inquiry, and by educating and preparing students to discharge the offices of life with usefulness and reputation. We do this through a partnership of students and teachers in a unified community known as a university-college.

Hours worked: Monday - Saturday 8:30-5pm (approximately 40 hours a week).
Description of your role and duties: At Brown, I earned the title of Assistant Facilities Operations Manager and Aquatic Coordinator. With this title, my duties are great. I help oversee a staff of approximately thirty lifeguards, monitor the pool water chemistry and daily activity. I also work with of of the aquatics lesson programs that are offered at Brown. This includes, instructors, program development and design, as well as registration. As part of my role at Brown, I also help manage the events that take place, such as swim meets or water polo tournaments.
Description of the culture of the place (how many people in the office, dress code, communication style) There are currently 5 people in my office with two other traveling interns. The dress code is business or business casual depending on the events taking place. The office communication often takes place in a variety of ways such as face to face, phone calls and emails.
Special notes on process of getting this internship: This internship is an a full time job in which I had to apply and interview for. The process of getting this internship was extensive and long. However, after my time in the YDEV seminar is over, I will continue to have this position.
