Description of your role and duties: The role in this internship is administrative. You do not work with children directly. You go to court, learn about the court system, learn about different documents, and services that get implemented to families.
Description of the culture of the place:There are about 20 people just on this floor. Caseworkers and Child protection investigators are often on this floor for consultations. It is a fast paced environment. The dress code is formal think of business attire; dress pants, appropriate shirt, no jeans or sneakers.
Additional Requirements: Have to drive to downtown Providence -- parking can be difficult. You will need a background check.
Special notes on process of getting this internship: If you would like an internship with DCYF or Child Welfare, you have to meet with Jan Smith, she is in charge of finding placements for these departments . Her office is located in the Social Work building. It can take a while to get placed with DCYF and Child Welfare because of the background checks that have to be done. If you are interested talk to Jan as soon as possible.
