Description of the overall mission of this organization:Targeted towards at-risk and under-served youth Statewide, our school represents a quality educational option for students who have struggled to succeed in Rhode lsland's traditional public high schools, especially those dealing with teenage pregnancy and parenting, family care-taking responsibilities, domestic abuse, lack of family support and other family-related challenges.

Hours worked: 10-15 hours a week, Mondays & Fridays (Days are very flexible).

Description of your role and duties: Creating a more engaged student environment and culture. Created a student council to get students personally involved with decisions being made in their school. Developed constitution, description of each position, membership contracts, and planned a election day! Worked on also creating and planning a school wide dinner / dance.

Description of the culture of the place: Small school setting, one huge room with all the students and teachers. Laid back environment, very comfortable and inviting.

Additional Requirements: May travel between both campuses.

Special notes on process of getting this internship: Just emailed the school explaining YDEV, and that I was looking for a internship. Went in for a meeting with the head of the school, and then was set up with Melissa.
