Ages of youth served: 14-24 for Youth Service Program
Hours of internship: 10 hours weekly. Monday & Wednesday 11-4pm
Description of role and duties: (include administrative or hands-on or both)
Case Management Administrative position helping with Youth Success Program. Particularly working close with Summer Youth Program which begins in early July. It is a 6 week summer program helping youth get a paid internship at a site of their choice to prepare them to learn skills needed to become an independent worker. Other tasks that I did on a weekly basis were submitting a hard copy of the SY applications on a data base website. I had to keep track and contact youth that had incomplete applications. Also, filed applications and transferred old SY applications into boxes for storage. I also distributed walk-in clients with applications and set youth up for testing in the testing room.
Paid or unpaid: Unpaid
Description of the culture of the place (how many people in the office, dress code, communication style):
About five to six people working on the second floor. Each had their own computer and desk to work with (including myself). Professional dress attire required.
Additional Requirements: Travel a few times to drop off mail to their Johnston location.
Special notes on process of getting this internship: Perhaps contacting Jamie Sisto (Case Manager) at 401-519-1929 and she will get in contact with Justin as soon as possible. This was the case for me.
Other information: Primary contact information above is provided but Justin was not my mentor. Justin does the interview and hiring process for internships. He then placed me with Jamie Sisto the Case Manager in his Dept. She was great to work with. I only contacted Justin throughout the semester to get approval of some things.
