The mission of the YMCA of Greater Providence is to build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all, through programs, services, and relationships that are based upon our core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Hours worked:
I worked 180 hours in total which came out to approximately 15 hours a week. I worked every morning from 6:45- 8:30 and on Monday and Tuesday afternoons (2:30-6:00).
Description of your role and duties: (include administrative or hands-on or both)
I worked closely with the youth and site coordinators in the Kent County YMCA OST (Out of School Time) sites. I helped youth with homework, helped facilitate clubs such as photography club, and built a community with youth and counselors in the different sites.
Description of the culture of the place (how many people in the office, dress code, communication style)
On a typical morning, there are 2 counselors and the site director of the OST site. Communication is open and is laid back but there is assistance if there is a problem. Counselors wear orange Y staff shirts.
In the afternoon, there are 3 counselors and the site director. Communication is open about any changes that could be made or easy to voice any questions, comments, or concerns. Counselors wear orange Y staff shirts.
Special notes on process of getting this internship: I was asked for an interview with Charlotte and was asked to start right away.
