Setting appointments and providing supports is the main goal in this internship.
Description of the culture of the place (how many people in the office, dress code, communication style). The culture in this internship is very welcoming and provides a diverse population to the environment. Many staff and participants are from underrepresented groups and their main focus are the students. There are three networks that help support a variety of student needs, as well as project opportunities that are presented monthly within the work space. You are introduced to many faces and people coming into the space since it is shared with couple other departments. This aspect builds a tighter community.
The majority of the navigators are graduate students and they all provide a lot of support. The L4L Community is organized through networks of support, led by Educational Support Facilitators (ESF) who serve as the central point of contact for students served by the project as well as the Navigators. Ed Facilitators, as we call them, also coordinate project objectives including outreach to students, the development of marketing materials, communications, and collaborative initiatives. Clinical oversight for the Navigators is provided through a faculty member of the School of Social Work. Each week you meet with your Lead Navigato each week, then bi-weekly with your mentor, and then once a month meeting with your network mentor. Basically, this internship provides a lot of support for students and an amazing way to learn and grow professionally and personally.
The dress code is business casual. A lot of the communication is through emails with your supervisor and scholars. Notifications and alerts will occur through email. Some contact with scholars have the option to be by text or phone conversations also.
