Name of Mentor: Naomi Mancuso
Hours worked: Week days and Weekends. Anytime ranging from 7am-11pm.
Description of your role and duties: I am a behavior specialist. I work in the schools and in the resident homes. In both locations I am working hands-on with the students with disabilities. Students I work with can have autism, physical disabilities, severe developmental disabilities, or sever behaviors. I help them with day to day living task at the resident homes. Some of the tasks can be cleaning their rooms, eating, and showering etc. At the schools, we help them with educational task like math and speech. In both locations there is paper work to fill out like their data book that records their behaviors and their task book which is what they are working on to improve in.
Description of the culture of the place (how many people in the office, dress code, communication style): Dress code is pretty relaxed but they do not want anybody wearing jeans or sweat pants. At all times you have to be wearing closed toe shoes. Before you start working with the students you go through an orientation and it teaches and help you with how to communicate with the children in this population.
Additional Requirements: The school building is about 45 minutes from Providence. The resident homes are in different cities in Massachusetts. It would be convenient if you have a car because you would have to travel to the residents' homes too.
