Name of Organization: Boys and Girls Clubs of Northern Rhode Island (BGCNRI)
                                        https://www.bgcnri.org
Address: 1 James Mckee Way Cumberland RI, 02864
Description of the overall mission of this organization: Making sure that the youth that is served reach their full potential
Ages of youth served: 5 to 12 Years Old
Name of Mentor: Jessica Bliss, ChildCare Director
                             https://www.bgcnri.org/before-and-after-school-program
                             https://www.bgcnri.org/summer-child-care-application
Hours worked: Tuesday's 9-5 pm & Thursday's 9-2 pm
Description of your role and duties: Putting in the attendance for the Before School Program. Helping with organizing and getting ready for summer camp like going through files, Getting accredited by the ACA, Getting the summer camp packet ready to go live for registration on the website and for when people walk in the door asking for a packet to fill out. Teaching a class to my group called Smart Kids and started a new program called Healthy Habits. I also put in attendance for DHS and to get reimbursed for the food program that we use. When a child gets ineligible for DHS I would have to write a letter for the parent to let them know they would have to reapply.
Description of the culture of the place: There is one person in the childcare directors office but I would have to walk through the Front Desk Office to get to the Childcare directors office. Across the hall in the administration offices there are 9 people.  The dress code was laid back but to a point. I could wear my BGCNRI shirt with a pair of leggings and the childcare director would wear jeans with a nice shirt with nice shoes. As long as our pants did not have holes in them or our shirts were presentable we were good. Since we do not have to go to any formal meeting we do not have to dress super fancy and since I work directly with the youth I want the parents to know that I work there. We are all very friendly and close because we see each other every day so our communication is very good. The communication style was made for employees and interns to feel comfortable voicing opinions or just having a conversation.
Additional Requirements: The childcare director does have to travel to go to some conferences throughout the year (travel, etc)
Special notes on the process of getting this internship: Working there I already had an in already on getting the internship but I would say that if someone wanted to intern at a Boys and Girls Club that going in there with their resume ready in hand and with an attitude that you are ready to work with an extraordinary group of young people. It is a great way to get some experience working in a Nonprofit Organizations as well as working with a diverse population.
Other internship opportunities with this organization: The Director of Development takes on interns, the Athletic Director does some internships and that is it for right now.
What three TAGS would you use to label this internship?
