Description of the overall mission of this organization:The Paul V. Sherlock Center on Disabilities, founded at Rhode Island College in 1993, is a University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD). UCEDDs are evidence driven and designed to advance policies, practices and research that improve the health, education, social and economic well-being of people with disabilities, their families, and their communities.
The mission of the Sherlock Center is to promote membership of individuals with disabilities in school, work and the community.
 
The Sherlock Center is a member of the Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD), a national network of 67 interdisciplinary centers advancing policy and practice for and with individuals with developmental and other disabilities, their families and communities. The Sherlock Center is also a LEND (Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities) Program.

Description of your role and duties:
I am a mentor that works with students with intellectual disabilities ages 18-30. I provide academic, employment, and social support to students. I am also the lead mentor for free period overseeing 9 students and 10 mentors. Behind the scenes I am consistently sending emails to students and parents.
Description of the culture of the place
There are two supervisors, 14 mentors, and 1 intern. There is no dress code for this position. We all mainly communicate to each other on a private facebook page, and via email.
Additional Requirements:
I am required to travel off-site to student's internship. The main site is RIC, however I also travel to another part of Providence and Lincoln three days during the week.
Special notes on process of getting this internship: This internship is also my job. I asked my boss if they would be okay with me internship under them, and they were all for it.
